Texas Rural Transportation Plan Hearing Scheduled

Subject: Texas Rule Transportation Plan Hearing Scheduled

Fellow Texans:

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is preparing to adopt the final version of the Texas Rural Transportation Plan (TRTP). The attached newsletter presents a summary of the plan’s findings.

The TRTP contains an assessment of the needs for roadway and non-roadway transportation modes and where available, potential projects to address those needs. In producing the plan, over 600 added-capacity roadway projects that are not currently funded or scheduled for construction were evaluated statewide using criteria established by TxDOT and rural stakeholders. The projects were then ranked geographically by TxDOT district. These rankings do not establish project priorities, but rather will be used by TxDOT and primary stakeholders as one of many tools in making planning and programming decisions.

The newsletter and the draft final plan can be reviewed at: http://www.txdot.gov/public_involvement/hearings_meetings/el_paso/trtp_030712.htm .

A public hearing on the TRTP is scheduled for May 21, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Texas Department of Transportation, 200 East Riverside Drive, Austin, Texas.

Comments on the draft plan may be submitted to James L. Randall, P.E., Director, Transportation Planning and Programming, 118 East Riverside Drive, Austin, Texas, 78704 or electronically at TPP_txtranplan@txdot.gov . Comments will be accepted until June 4, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. (CST).

We hope you will continue to participate in the process to assist TxDOT in fulfilling its mission to work with others to provide safe and reliable transportation solutions for Texas.
